Another trip around the sun. This is 53 and I’m Another trip around the sun. This is 53 and I’m so glad to still be kicking it this birthday after the crappy past year and a half I’ve had with my health.

I can’t believe I haven’t posted on IG in a year, so I guess it’s appropriate that today would be the day I resurface to say, “Hi, I’m still alive.”

Health-wise I’ve had ups and downs this year with more scans, blood draws, tests, hospital visits and various doctor appointments and procedures than I care to have ever again. Honestly though, I don’t know where I’d be in my healing if I hadn’t also done my own research to help myself in this whole process. So if you take any tips away from this post, it’s…do the homework to understand what’s going on with your own health. No one’s going to care about you getting fully well more than you do. And don’t discount how your diet and exercise can have a major impact on that process as well. At least I’ve finally started to make strides in a positive direction. The constant yo-yo of get better/feel bad/get better/feel bad was driving me batty. At the moment I plan to spend my holidays with as low stress as possible while enjoying family time that seems to grow more and more fleeting, but no less precious, the older my grown kids get.

For my readers, thank you so much for your unending patience! I haven’t given up on writing. I plan to spend the beginning of next year diving back into Black Steel and other stories that have been percolating. It finally feels like the creative part of my brain is ready to peek through the muck. I hope you’ll stick with me!
Today is my 52nd birthday. If you’d asked me if Today is my 52nd birthday. If you’d asked me if I felt my age six months ago, I would’ve said, “Nope! Age is just a number.” Oh, what a difference a few months can make. So many friends and family reached out to wish me a happy birthday today and I really appreciated it so much! I’m thankful to be on the mend, even as I’m still dealing with the after effects of having acute thyroiditis back in late July. Healing is a frustratingly slow, day by day process, but I’m here, appreciating the little things in the meantime. A couple things I’ve learned over the last several months is to keep your stress low and when you can’t, breathing techniques really do help (Thank you, Yoga with Adrienne). Also, I’ll never take good health for granted, ever again!
Posting here too for my Instagram followers. I kn Posting here too for my Instagram followers. I know you all want to know about Black Steel but I'm going to be super honest here and tell you that right now I have to focus on me. If I can't get my health straightened out, then there won't be any books coming out any time soon.

After I posted at the beginning of August, my life has been a roller coaster of argh, this sucks health stuff. Back in late July, thoughts I was having a heart attack sent me to the hospital, twice within a week. After tons of tests, including a thyroid scan, it turns out I had acute Thyroiditis aka a thyroid storm. By the way, I don't recommend it! Your thyroid controls every part of your body from hormones to weight to mood to heat/cold tolerance and on and on. So when it gets inflamed, your whole body goes out of whack too.

Ever since then, my heart rate has been all over the place, with palpations and insomnia suddenly constant issues. Sigh. Getting extensive lab work done is a slow process, but after delays out of my control, I've just gotten results back…and now I have to wait to be seen by the doctor to hopefully get on the right balance of meds to help me heal properly. I'm doing everything I can to get healthy. Eating right and low stress are key, but with the right meds, it also takes time to heal.

Fingers crossed, I'll be better by the beginning of next year and I can get back to the business of writing you all the best stories I can. I'm not seeking medical advice as I've been researching for a while now (ha, writers gonna do what writers do) but I'll happily welcome your thoughts and prayers for a full recovery.

Man, I'm so ready to feel good again. Between losing several family members the last 18 months and now this current health scare, 2021 can pound sand.

Hugs and thank you for your unending patience. Sebastian and Talia will be back!
If you’ve ever wondered if you can grow zucchini If you’ve ever wondered if you can grow zucchini and squash in pots on your porch garden…Yes, you can! What I learned: The big terra cotta pots have done the best for these plants. The size allows for cages to be used to support the plant’s leaves as it gets bigger. Am off to make dinner. #porchgarden #squash #zucchini #freshveggiesfromthegarden
